The human bumper sticker…

What is the #1 thing you see on all road races? I mean… unless you’re #1 all the way, it is inevitable that you will see backs! Yes, backs… as in likod. Think of Run for Change as your human bumper sticker. Wouldn’t it be nice or fun to be able to read statements placed at people’s backs? I mean, it can be anything… a simple statement, a joke or a funny line, or what. There is just one restriction… the statement has to be a positive one or something that lifts your spirits.

I was reading Bards’ aka banana running’s blog entry on Self Talk. With Run for Change, it’s like having everyone’s thought bubble out in the open. You find out what they’re running for or what their main motivator is. It is also like offering your run for something you want to achieve. You can also see it as something like a sacrifice. You can say, “im offering this run for my friend who’s sick.” or “This run is for you <insert name here>.” or “I’m setting a new PR.”

Just a little bit more background on me. I’m a UP student… and… like what most people think or people perceive us as protesters, rallyists and demonstrators. Well, there is nothing wrong about engaging in such activities, but what I realized is that there is soo much negative energy. There is soo much anger. So I decided to do something more positive. Run For Change is not against something or someone, it is for something. It is setting a goal, an ambition or stating an aspiration. It can be for yourself, someone else, or heck, even the whole country.

Run for Change is giving people the opportunity to speak out and be heard… or more appropriately, be read :)

My idea is that in every Run for Change partner race event, there will be booths that people can get the Run for Change kits that include a race bib (to be placed on their backs), an application form/registration form, and a small flyer on what Run for Change is. Then, they give their CHANGE for CHANGE. As in “barya” (CHANGE) forĀ “pagbabago” (CHANGE). It can be P5, P10, or P20. People can even give more.

What makes it nice is that it is for everyone. :) I mean, it doesn’t have to be expensive. Because running isn’t.

Then all the proceeds will go to the maintenance of the Run for Change website (I hope to get a domain name soon), and an exhibit will be done every quarter where we can showcase the different statements made. Think of it as a Run for a Cause event that can have a participant of 1. Then, depending also on the funds generated, it can go to a charitable institution chosen by registered Run for Change members at the end of the year. Also, it can have a Run For Change event, where we have a Road Race hosted, sponsored and handled by Run For Change.
