UP ICTUS Century Run

Posted in running events with tags , , , on November 30, 2008 by Passion Runner

The first UP ICTUS Century Run was my first 5k race for 2007… and my “practice run” for the Subic International Marathon… If I’m not mistaken, it was also Coach Rio’s second race, after the UP EURO: Great UP Run. Hopefully, I get to race this one, since I’ll be attending a wedding the night before.

It’s been a while since I last ran or trained. OUTTA SHAPE. Hehe

Things I’ve missed… and indulging

Posted in ramblings with tags , , on November 24, 2008 by Passion Runner

Ever since I got into serious weight-loss mode and decided to lead a more active and healthy lifestyle, I’ve said good bye (for the time being) to certain things I really enjoy. They are, in no particular order:

1. KFC – my favorite are the hotshots, fries and a plate with a “swimming pool” of gravy.
2. Reese Peanut Butter Cups
3. Beer
4. Mixed drinks
5. Pork Sisig
6. Chicken Skin
7. M&Ms (the one that has peanuts)
8. Pizza
9. Ice cream
10. Krispy Creme
11. Cheese sticks
12. Doritos
13. PicNic shoestring potatoes
14. KitKat

I’m sure there are a whole lot of other stuff I left out… during the entire time I haven’t been running, I’ve been indulging myself in these things I’ve missed so much. I remember myself one time at Trinoma, on my way home… I suddenly smelled the chicken coming from KFC… I decided to have a quick bite. I think it was over a year since I last ate at KFC and upon that bite of hotshots covered in KFC gravy… haha… I felt I was in food heaven. Super babaw ko… haha! And ever since that day, I’ve been having KFC as my snack or food-to-go whenever I don’t have time to eat and am rushing to go to school or heading home after a long day.

I know I’ve been indulging too much… talk about downing almost 2 buckets of beer, going home at 6am on a weekday (thank God my classes start at 2pm)…. And telling myself, “ah… I’ll burn it anyway” or “Itatakbo ko na lang…” Only to realize that I haven’t been running much lately. Good thing though that my clothes still fit but I think I’ll be starting from square one. I think I’ve said this several times already in the past 2-3 months. Hahaha!

It’s also another reason why I haven’t been writing much. There isn’t anything to write about yet… well, nothing interesting as of now.

Out of track and out of shape…

Posted in ramblings with tags on November 23, 2008 by Passion Runner

The month of November is about to end and as I turn to look at my training calendar/log, I realize that I was only able to run 6 times. I’ve been definitely out of track [pun intended].

My last “run” was at the Men’s Health Urbanathlon which was fun and definitely a new experience for me with the addition of obstacles to the usual 10k route. However, as I was doing laps around the academic oval, I could feel my knees buckling and my calves hurting. I also kept on stopping at the water stations. The day after, my colds got worse and I had developed a bad cough. I was surely out of shape or getting out of shape.

Doray and initially had a goal to reach by Dec.20… but we’ve both been delinquent. Drinking, staying out late, eating a lot… and by the looks of it, we’ll have to extend out deadline. What do you think Doc? Hehe! Delinquente tayo masyado… What ya say, let’s start our “serious” training again?

The Urbanathlon 2008 took place today, November 16, 2008 at the UP Diliman campus. With Over 700+ participants, the morning was filled with fun and followed by a lively festival… free drinks and lots lots more.
